Compound graphic items

Elementary graphic items can be grouped into compound graphic items. Compound items are offered even in the items palette, for example, Panel with title. It goes about the elementary PmiPanel graphic item into which the elementary graphic item PmiText is placed.

The compound item can be composed from two or more elementary or compound items. The compound item is created by inserting an item into another one, which can be done in two ways.

1) If you have created more items on the desktop, from which you want to create one compound graphic item, then you'll proceed as follows: One of the items always functions as the base, all others are nested into it. The graphic item, into which it is inserted, must be greater than the inserted one. Mark all graphic items that will be nested into the base item, and move them over the base item (place it on the position where it has to be located). Leave the marked inserted items and click the item, into which it is inserted, by the right mouse button. You must click the place which no part of the inserted items interferes with (if the inserted items fully cover the item, into which nesting has to be made, then displace the inserted items outside the area of the item, into which they were inserted). The menu, from which you should select the option "Marked items / Insert marked items into current item", is opened by clicking. By this the window Creation of compound item is opened where you can enter all required parameters.

2) If you want to insert another item into some of the items by selecting from the preconfigurations, then open the configuration window of corresponding item and open the Subitems page (if + character appears on this page, then it means that at least one inserted item is defined). Insert new items from the palette by pressing the Add button. It is possible to configure all inserted items on this page and also to cancel them.

If some properties of the compound item (internal or base item) are bound by the data bindings to PROMOTIC variables, then it is advisable to create a compound graphic item where these properties are not bound directly to PROMOTIC variables (i.e. the Data binding PP - Binding to PROMOTIC object property data binding is not used) but they are bound by the Data binding GP - Binding to the property of graphic item data binding to the new created Variables of the base item, (see examples included in the GP data binding description). The compound item binding to PROMOTIC variables is made by binding the item variables to PROMOTIC variables by the data bindings (e.g. by the Data binding PP - Binding to PROMOTIC object property data bindings) in the configuration of the Variables.
The advantage of compound items is, for example, the possibility to change the position and size of multiple items together. You can save the compound item among the preconfigurations, see How to save item among preconfigured items.
